A new beer hall concept has been introduced in Versova by Auriga Hospitality, the group known for its popular venue Bonobo. The establishment, named Public, has been launched as a no-reservations neighbourhood bar inspired by traditional Indian beer halls, vintage gymkhanas, and old Irani cafés. The space has been positioned as an accessible and unpretentious social hub designed for relaxed evenings and extended drinking sessions.
The 1,700 square foot venue has been developed at the former Jamjar Diner location and has been designed by Shweta Kaushik of SKID. Seating for approximately 100 guests has been incorporated within an interior that moves away from dark, moody bar themes. Instead, a bright and open aesthetic has been adopted. Exposed beams, metal accents, aluminium details, and stone finishes inspired by Kota and Kadapa have been integrated to create a contemporary yet distinctly Mumbai atmosphere. A clean and straightforward design language has been maintained throughout the space.
The beverage programme has been centred on cold beer and straight spirits. A mix of regular and craft beers has been made available, alongside a full spirits menu. While cocktails have not been positioned as the focus, simple favourites are said to be prepared upon request. Affordable pricing has been introduced to bridge the gap between high-end cocktail bars and traditional quarter bars, thereby catering to a wider audience.
The food menu has been curated by Chef Sohini Bhattacharya and has been structured around hyper-regional Indian flavours. Sections such as Touchings, Snacks, Sigri/Tawa specials, Tangra, Mountain classics, and select meal options have been included. Familiar dishes designed to complement beverages have been highlighted. It has been stated by the chef that the food is intended to be eaten by hand, paired with a drink, and kept regional, flavourful, and uncomplicated.
