The premium wine segment in India has been expanded with the introduction of The Source Chardonnay Reserve by Sula Vineyards. The new release has been positioned as part of the brand’s established The Source range and has been developed using grapes sourced from select vineyards. Oak fermentation has been employed to create a dry white Chardonnay that combines depth, richness, and freshness.

The wine has been described as medium-bodied with an alcohol content of 13 percent. Honeyed aromas have been highlighted as a key sensory feature, while subtle vanilla notes have been reported on the palate. Through oak fermentation, additional texture and complexity have been achieved, while freshness has been retained to ensure balance and approachability. This profile has been positioned as suitable for both formal dining occasions and celebratory settings.

Food-pairing versatility has been emphasised, with the wine being recommended alongside creamy pasta dishes, grilled seafood, roast chicken preparations, and artisanal cheeses. The launch has been viewed as a strategic extension of The Source portfolio, which already comprises six wines, including a Pinot Noir that has gained popularity among consumers. The expansion has been linked to the company’s broader focus on terroir-led winemaking and consistent quality delivery.

Insights into the winemaking philosophy were shared by Gorakh Gaikwad, who stated that the Chardonnay Reserve had been crafted to express the elegance of the grape through careful handling. It was noted that oak fermentation had been used to add depth and texture, while natural freshness had been preserved to maintain balance and accessibility. The wine was described as reflecting smoothness, layered complexity, and understated confidence.

The Source Chardonnay Reserve has been priced at ₹1,250 for a 750 ml bottle and ₹685 for a 375 ml bottle. Distribution has commenced across wine retail outlets in Maharashtra, with availability in Karnataka expected in the coming months. With this launch, Sula Vineyards’ commitment to premiumisation and refined winemaking within the Indian wine landscape has been further reinforced.
