A new milestone was reached in the world of Indian spirits as Amrut Expedition, a rare 15-year-old single malt whisky, was unveiled through an exclusive travel retail partnership with Monika Alcobev. This launch was described as a historic moment, with the whisky being recognized as the oldest and most expensive ever created in the country.

The journey of this whisky was anything but ordinary. It was explained that Amrut Expedition had been given an extended maturation period—eight years inside European sherry casks and another seven years in American ex-bourbon barrels. This careful two-stage process was said to have imparted an extraordinary depth, harmony, and richness. With just 75 bottles produced across the globe, and each priced at more than USD 12,500, the release was presented as one of the most exclusive in the Indian whisky story.

Travelers and collectors were told to expect the debut of this expression at select duty-free stores, thanks to Monika Alcobev’s stewardship. In India, a multi-airport rollout was planned, though only nine bottles were allocated for the entire country. Out of these, three were set aside for Bengaluru Duty Free at Kempegowda International Airport. Through this move, Monika Alcobev’s role in curating luxury spirits was reinforced, while Amrut’s craftsmanship was placed firmly on a global pedestal.

The significance of the launch was also reflected in the voices of industry leaders. Rakshit N. Jagdale, Managing Director of Amrut Distilleries, was quoted as saying that Amrut Expedition represented 75 years of heritage built across three generations, and that its introduction through travel retail allowed it to connect with discerning global drinkers. Meanwhile, Kunal Patel of Monika Alcobev noted that the whisky highlighted the very finest of Indian whisky-making and underlined the company’s leadership in the distribution of ultra-premium spirits.

Attention was also drawn to the details that made this whisky a collector’s dream. Each bottle was housed in an elaborate wood-and-metal case and paired with a silver peg measure, authentication card, and NFC chip for security. On the palate, the whisky was described as bold and complex, with a deep cola color, aromas of sherried truffle, vanilla, and sandalwood, and a powerful 62.8% ABV that revealed layers of chocolate-infused sherry, pepper, and dried fruits. A lingering and elegant finish was said to complete the experience, as highlighted by David Grady of Avolta.
