In a bold move to revolutionize the culinary offerings on Indian trains, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has joined forces with the renowned food delivery platform Swiggy. This strategic partnership, announced via an official filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), underscores IRCTC’s commitment to enhancing passenger satisfaction during train journeys.
Seamless Integration for Pre-Ordered Meals
Facilitated by Bundl Technologies Private Limited, the parent company of Swiggy, this collaboration aims to introduce a seamless system for supplying and delivering pre-booked meals through the IRCTC e-catering portal. Described as a proof of concept (PoC) in an IRCTC statement, this venture promises to redefine the onboard dining experience for travelers across India. The implementation of this innovative service will be carried out in stages, with the initial phase targeting four key stations: Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam. While the exact launch date remains undisclosed, anticipation is high for the imminent introduction of this groundbreaking dining experience, which is set to offer passengers unprecedented convenience and choice.
Phased Rollout and Enhanced Convenience
This collaboration with Swiggy follows IRCTC’s successful alliance with Zomato for pre-booked food delivery at select railway stations, including Kanpur, Lucknow, New Delhi, Prayagraj, and Varanasi. Through these partnerships, passengers gain access to a diverse range of restaurant options by entering their Passenger Name Record (PNR) numbers. Once selections are made, passengers can conveniently place orders, choosing between online payment or cash on delivery. The ordered meals are then promptly delivered directly to their seats, ensuring a delightful journey for every traveler.
With IRCTC at the forefront of leveraging technology to elevate onboard services and Swiggy bringing its expertise in efficient food delivery, passengers can look forward to a new era of culinary satisfaction during their train travels. This collaboration signals a promising future for onboard dining experiences, promising convenience, choice, and quality for passengers across the Indian railway network.
